The Importance of Proper Tire Care
Everyone knows that without tires your car would not drive or move very well. Autowise Service and Tire Center needs to remind our customers that your tires are one of the most important parts of your vehicle. It’s very common for people to ignore proper tire care, until they have a flat tire or a tire blow out, and it becomes necessary.
The problem with under inflated, over inflated or worn tires is that they can potentially lead to poor vehicle handling and even an accident. By regularly checking and maintaining your tires, you’ll know when to have them serviced and when to replace your tires.
If you are unaware of what you need to do to care for and keep your tires, Autowise Service and Tire Center supplies you with the following tire checkup tips to help you:
Maintain Proper Tire Pressure. One of the most important ways you can properly maintain your tires is to keep them at the right tire pressure. All tires tend to lose air pressure over time. Even your spare tire naturally loses its air pressure as time passes. Refer to the tire pressure requirements on your tire’s sidewall and check your tire’s air pressure. When you maintain the right tire pressure, your car will get better gas mileage and your tires will wear more evenly and last longer.
Examine Tires for Uneven Wear or Worn Out Tread. Unevenly worn tires usually indicate that your tires do not have enough air pressure. There are multiple ways to test the tread of your tires. One of the most common ways is to place a penny with Lincoln’s head facing downward into many of the tread grooves around the tire. According to most state laws, tires are worn out, when they have worn down to 2/32″ of remaining tread depth. If part of Lincoln’s head is covered by the tread, your tires have more than 2/32″ of tread depth remaining.
Look at Your Tires’ Wear Indicators. All tires have wear indicators on them. Wear indicators tell you, when your tires need to be renewed. Wear indicators are most commonly small dents that are scattered around the tread pattern and around the tire ridge as well. If the wear indicators on your tires are just as high as the tread, this is a sign that you need new tires.
By following these tips, you should be able to safely maintain your tires. To find out more about tire car or for tire care services, please visit us at Autowise Service and Tire Center. We will check your tires’ air pressure, the wear of the tread and rotate or replace your tires if necessary.
