Without a Carfax report, you can take the automobile to a mechanic of your choosing to inspect the engine and safety systems. Check the service records for indications about how the maintenance has been performed. Tire tread is easy to spot and should be at safe levels. If not, you may have to negotiate with the seller.

Taking the automobile for a test drive is another good way to determine the health of the vehicle’s engine and handling. Abnormal sounds may indicate an issue, so be sure to listen to the engine. Inspect the interior for cleanliness and driver comfort.
